Web Gallery w/ Wordpress, Part 1
Well, I decided recently that I need to learn some more about the “other” features of Wordpress so I decided that I need to design a Css Gallery type site where users can email me there site and if I think it is good enough then I put it into the gallery, where users can rate it, add comments etc. I will posting all of my updates with the site in 3 series. Rest after the break…
- The first thing I decided I needed to do was to base the gallery off a template and then I could just completely modify to template for my own needs and so I decided to use the theme from www.OsDesigner.net , what I liked about this theme is its already set up for layout of the gallery using custom fields. I never knew about custom fields until I started this project , but I soon learned that they are very powerful, for instance you know those sites that have like the “Featured Video” section somewhere on the site? Those are done with custom fields, you just put the embed code in the custom fields box in the bottom of the post and bam there it is, in its own little section, pretty cool.
- Next, I had to start to modify the theme for my own needs. The first thing I did was completely change up the sidebar, I added my own adds section, changed up the tabber features and messed around with the graphics. I also modified the custom fields and added a author field as well as a designers field. This being part one, I am gonna keep it pretty simple, part 2 will include pictures and such.
I think this will be enough for this part, check back in about a week for part 2 which will include a working trial and my ideas on how to do the design, the footer and how to post into the theme. Until Then, Jake
